Keito Matsuoka was born in 1990 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, and is one of Japan’s leading big wave surfers and watermen. He is agenuine free surfer who has honed his surfing skills at some of Japan’s best beach breaks in the cold Tohoku area and has beenimprinted with hardcore culture. Although he was active in contests during his junior years, he left the mainstream path andinstinctively sought beautiful waves around the world, choosing to continue with “wave hunting,” a field that has not yet beenestablished in Japan. The wave that Keito had dreamed of since childhood, which could be called a miracle, reached her as if it were atest or a choice, and she made a brilliant wave, showing her world-class potential. He won a perfect wave at Pipeline in 2019, won theSURFLINE Wave of the Winter in 2019, and is effectively the world’s number one title with the SURFER AWARD Best Barrel award. Heis invited to the “Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational” in 2024.
